Nurturing Community at Al Mouj Muscat’s with New Urban Farm

An urban farm at Al Mouj Muscat is a first for Oman and the latest initiative from the premier lifestyle destination to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, whilst encouraging a strong sense of community among its 8,000 residents.
Located at Linear Park within the oceanfront integrated tourism complex, the Urban Farm provides a richly fertile space where residents can come together to grow their own produce and learn about sustainable agriculture.
The 250 sq meter farm is proving extremely popular with people of all ages and so far, more than 30 volunteers have embraced the opportunity to garden outdoors and collectively plant, grow and harvest a variety of vegetables, fruit and herbs.
The hands-on, eco-friendly concept is both sociable and educational as it provides an environment where people can connect over a mutual appreciation and love of nature whilst sharing their skills and knowledge. The produce is enjoyed by the volunteers who have the pleasure of taking home nutritious produce, promoting good health and well-being.
Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat, commented: “The addition of the urban farm is a wholesome addition to our community, and we are grateful for the tremendous support we have received from all of our volunteers.
“By engaging our residents and fostering a sense of ownership and pride, it helps to create a stronger, healthier, and more connected community, values which sit at the core of Al Mouj.
“What is also central to our guiding principles and philosophy is the importance of environmental stewardship. By providing opportunities to incorporate nature into daily life, we are supporting our aims of pioneering sustainability.
Currently the urban farm is growing a variety of produce including tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, eggplants, sweet potatoes, aubergines and herbs and over the winter months when stronger harvests are likely, any surplus will be given away freely to the wider Al Mouj community.

Al Mouj Muscat was the Sultanate’s first Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC), a joint venture between Majid Al Futtaim Properties, OMRAN and Tanmia that today people from 85 nationalities call home. In addition to its world-class oceanfront retail and dining experiences, visitors are attracted to a 400-berth marina from which sea tour operators run leisure trips off the coast of Oman, an award-winning World 100 championship golf course and luxury hotels.
