Al Mouj Muscat celebrates a decade of success with sustainability report launch

The leading integrated tourism complex reflects on its 10 years of achievements as it looks forward to the future.

9th May 2018: One decade since its first residents moved in, Oman’s leading Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC), Al Mouj Muscat, has released its first annual sustainability report. The report gives a detailed breakdown of the award-winning destination’s highlights to date, as well as a snapshot of future ambitions as part of its overarching masterplan.

Currently around 44% of the overall development of the masterplan is complete and work continues to accelerate. In the past few months, not only have the Mysk Al Mouj and Kempinski Muscat hotels opened their doors, but the site also recently celebrated the opening of Muscat’s first public square – Marsa Plaza. Al Mouj Muscat also has a number of new hotels planned, a new community hub for both residents and visitors to enjoy and a number of new dining offerings set to open later this year.
These announcements are the latest in Al Mouj Muscat success story, which touches on a number of areas, including not only economic growth, but also contribution to tourism, and its dedicated focus on eco-friendly living. Key highlights over the past decade include:

Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat, comments on the report: “Over a decade in Oman gives us the perfect opportunity to take stock of all that we have achieved at Al Mouj Muscat so far. Whilst we are still only halfway into our overall masterplan, the many awards, openings and events – which become more and more rewarding each year, are a reflection of the amazing work that has been done by the employees, the support of our residents and the continued contribution of both Omani visitors and those from further afield.”

Contribution to tourism
In attention to its contribution to GDP, Al Mouj Muscat is also dedicated to supporting the wider Oman Vision with tourism a key focus. In 2018, it has enjoyed success with Al Mouj Muscat Marathon that saw a 600% growth in runners from 2017 and the first ever European Tour event – NBO Oman Open taking place at Al Mouj Golf. It also recently launched the Jewel of Muscat memorial on Marsa Promenade, the first piece of public art by a private development, highlighting a key moment in Oman’s maritime history, for visitors from all over the world to enjoy.

Leading the way in eco-friendly living
For those who have visited Al Mouj Golf, it is probably no surprise to hear that more than 170 species of birds have been seen there – either using it as a permanent residence or as part of their migration patterns. The award-winning Golf Course also, like much of Al Mouj Muscat has strict waste management KPIs with water, energy and waste reduction all areas that have their own dedicated programmes. Looking outside the ITC, Al Mouj Muscat is also on track to ensure their target of a minimum of 50% of their suppliers also having their own environmental management methods in place.
Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, concludes: “Whilst we have big ambitions for what we want to achieve here, we also want to make sure that we are growing in the right way. I am personally very passionate about supporting SMEs and local businesses, respecting and appreciating Omani traditions and cultures, and having a solid environmental programme in place to ensure that we are protecting this beautiful destination for all of Oman to enjoy both now and in the future.”
